I visited the ‘worst ever’ Wetherspoons that’s been ranked ‘terrible’ on TripAdvisor – here’s what it’s really like
AFTER reading TripAdvisor reviews of what was dubbed the "worst ever" Wetherspoons, one man decided he had to see for himself.
John Jones made his way to the 'Spoons that has been slammed online as "horrendous" and "appalling".
And while some customers complained the pub had "unprofessional staff", a "lack of burgers", and "noisy children", the Wales man didn't think it deserved such harsh criticism.
John visited The Gatekeeper, which is one of the worst-ranked Cardiff Wetherspoons on Tripadvisor with just three out of five stars.
Among the reviews were customers' claims that this was the "worst Wetherspoons ever", and that their beer "tasted like a combination of cider and cat p***".
John, a reporter for , opened up about his visit to the pub, which sits in an old Victorian theatre.

His first impressions were it had a "nice buzz" - with families, work colleagues and friends chatting over a pint or meal.
The reporter found a table, which was "spotlessly clean" and nabbed himself a drink.
John said: "I treated myself to a Guinness, which came to £3.75. Extortionate by 'Spoons rates but cheaper than you'd find in most other pubs in Cardiff, and a decent pour and a friendly chat with the barman topped it off."
When it was time for a bite to eat he decided to give a burger ago - since one of the reviewers said the pub "lacked" them.

John said: "With another pint included, it came to a reasonable £11.67."
He continued: "Was it worth it? Well, yes. I didn't have any great expectations and it wasn't the best meal I'd ever had, but especially considering the price and speed of service, it was a damn good burger."
While he said the food wasn't awfully memorable, John explained that he didn't expect it to be - he just wanted "a spot of tasty grub".
He continued: "I went there expecting mediocrity, and I got it. Classic 'Spoons, you could say.
"It's nothing special, it's not even that good. But it's (still) cheap, cheerful and does the job, and it certainly isn't 'horrendous' or 'appalling' as others have said."
John added: "'Spoons is 'Spoons. And there's nothing wrong with that."
It's not unusual to see places in the UK dubbed "the worst" online.
