Murder probe launched as woman, 44, dies from injuries eight days after being ‘stabbed’

COPS have launched a murder probe after a woman died in hospital eight days after being allegedly stabbed.

Laura Metcalfe, 44, was found on Brougham Terrace, Hartlepool, just after 8pm on Friday, April 7.

She was rushed to hospital where she remained in a critical condition for eight days.

Today officers revealed she has tragically died from her injuries.

Superintendent Martin Hopps, District Commander for Hartlepool, said: “Cleveland Police would like to reassure the public that this is an isolated incident and there are no wider tensions within the community.

"Police will remain in the area conducting reassurance patrols and anyone with information is encouraged to speak with officers or contact the Major Enquiry Team by calling 101.”
