Brit dies after being knocked off his bike by ‘hit-and-run driver’ while cycling in Spain
A BRITISH cyclist has been killed by an alleged hit-and-run driver in Spain.
The 69-year-old man died as a a result of the injuries he suffered after being knocked off his bike on a road in the municipality of Torre near to Almeria in the south-east of Spain.
The incident happened around 10.30am on Sunday, near to a local fire station.
Efforts to save his life at the scene proved unsuccessful.
Local reports say the driver who hit him continued without stopping and assisting the victim.
Civil Guard sources said today they had arrested a suspect on suspicion of manslaughter and failing to stop at the scene of an accident.
He was bailed pending an ongoing investigation after appearing before a judge in a closed court hearing a few hours ago.
The dead Brit has not yet been named and it was not clear on Monday night if he lived in the area or was on holiday.
He is believed to have been cycling alone when he was run over.
The road where he was hit is the A-6111R.
