Fury erupts over woke decision to rename the Brecon Beacons due to climate change
FURY has erupted over the decision to rename the Brecon Beacons because of climate change.
Tory MPs slammed the Welsh park for pandering to “trendy virtue-signalling” after it officially rebranded as Bannau Brycheiniog.
Woke officials changed the name over bizarre fears it made a mockery of efforts to curb emissions.
Brecon Beacons chief executive Catherine Mealing-Jones said: “We’re an environmental organisation. We’re trying to cut carbon and push to net zero. So, having a carbon burning beacon just isn’t a good look.”
The park, which has suffered blazing wildfires in recent years, is aiming to reach net zero greenhouse gases by 2035.
But local Conservative Fay Jones fumed that the change was foisted upon the community unfairly.

The Brecon and Radnorshire MP let rip: “This decision has been imposed on us - the people who live and work in the national park - without any kind of consultation.
“It’s a shame the Park didn’t think to discuss their plans before they made their beautiful promotional video featuring a world famous actor.”
“To change the name because of trendy virtue signalling fears about climate change, shows that the park do not understand the farmers who enhance the environment in the national park every day.”
Welsh Tory leader Andrew RT Davies said: "The Beacons are as recognisable outside of Wales as they are here. Why undermine that?"

Quizzed on his views yesterday, Rishi Sunak insisted he was unaware of the name change.
But his spokesman later said: “I think on the specific issue of climate change, I think it's tangible action that's important, rather than nomenclature.”
