The robo-car's rearview cam catches the distracted driver hurtling towards it around a bend in North Carolina.

Jason Hughes was driving his electric-powered Tesla on Highway 10 near Hickory when he felt the car speed up suddenly.

He caught the silver Toyota Prius in his rear view mirror and quickly slammed his foot down on the accelerator -- but noticed the car was already speeding up.

This week British carmaker Jaguar revealed its I-PACE all-electric car to take on Tesla's fuel-free range.

The five-seater – described as a cross between an SUV and a flat-out performance car – is expected to hit the roads in 2018.
