iPhone 6 Plus ‘touch disease’ can now be fixed – for a price
Tech giant steps in to solve problem which stops smartphone's super-advanced touch screen from working properly
APPLE has stepped in to solve an issue dubbed "touch disease" that stops the iPhone 6 Plus from working properly.
The tech giant will now repair people's smartphones if they are suffering from the problem, which affects the device's touch screen.
, Apple said touch disease was a condition found in mistreated iPhones.
It wrote: "Apple has determined that some iPhone 6 Plus devices may exhibit display flickering or Multi-Touch issues after being dropped multiple times on a hard surface and then incurring further stress on the device.
"If your iPhone 6 Plus is exhibiting the symptoms noted above, is in working order, and the screen is not cracked or broken, Apple will repair your device for a service price of £146.44."
Apple also promised to contact people who had already paid for a repair to discuss reimbursement of a sum which "equals the difference between the price you paid for the original service to your iPhone 6 Plus and the £ 146.44 service price".
The problem was dubbed “touch disease” by the blog ifixit.org, which describes itself as an “online repair manual”.
It wrote: “There’s no way to tell exactly how many phones are afflicted with what we’re calling Touch Disease, but every repair tech we spoke to told us that the problem is incredibly common.”
The alleged problem is said to cause “a grey, flickering bar at the top of the display and an unresponsive touchscreen” – a problem that’s being described as the “grey screen of death”.
