Now authorities confirmed that three of the apex predators have been removed from the Mile 5 Dog Sanctuary after one of them attacked and devoured a trusty work hound, reports CBC.

Charlie Ladoon, who manages the Mile 5 Dog Sanctuary, admitted that the tragic mutt was chained up during the attack.

Dog breeder Ladoon also confirmed that he feeds the bears to keep them from preying on his animals.

He said: “That was the only day we didn't feed the f**king bears, the only night we didn't put anything out.”

Feeding polar bears is strictly forbidden under Manitoba's Endangered Species and Ecosystem Act.

And speaking with CBC, Ian Stirling, an adjunct professor at the University of Alberta, insisted Ladoon’s dog should have not been chained up.

He said that the chaining the mutts left them vulnerable to attacks.

Filmed by David De Meulles in the Canadian wilds, the original video showed a placid mutt being petted by the huge apex predator.

De Meulles told about incredible act of inter-species kindness.

He said: “I had no idea what was going to happen, and then sure enough he started petting that dog, acted like he was a friend

“I just so happened to catch a video of a lifetime.”

De Meulles, from Ontario, was talking to tourists when he witnessed the special moment.

And he confirmed he was astonished by what he saw.

He said: “I've known the bears to have somewhat friendly behaviour with the dogs, but for a bear to pet like a human would pet a dog is just mind-blowing.

“It was a beautiful sight to see, and I just can't believe an animal that big would show that kind of heart toward another animal.”

The brave hound belongs to local Brian Ladoon who breeds the fearless sled dogs which are impervious to the freezing conditions.

He told CBC that while there are have been a few “scares” involving bears his heroic dogs are relatively untroubled by the hulking predators.
