Firefighters battle huge fire in office block near Olympic Park

FIREFIGHTERS have battled a huge blaze in an office block close to the Olympic Park in east London.

Smoke billowing from the large building could be seen for miles around after the fire broke out this afternoon.

Twitter user tweeted a picture of the fire and said the office block appears to be disused.

A London Fire Brigade spokesman said: “Six fire engines and 35 firefighters and officers have been called to a fire in a disused office building on Warton Road in Stratford this afternoon.

“The blaze is affecting a large part of the third floor of the four storey property.

"In its early stages the fire was very visible and the Brigade’s 999 Control Officers took over 40 calls to the incident."

Motorists are asked to avoid the area.
