Driver in miracle escape after tree lands on it during Storm Angus
The female motorist fortunately escaped without injury after heavy rainfall softened the soil around the roots of the tree
A DRIVER had a lucky escape after a tree crushed a car as Storm Angus battered the country.
The red Toyota was severely damaged when the tree came crashing down on top of it during the storm today.
The incident blocked off a road near Lyme Regis in Dorset but local cops reported no one was injured in the crash.
Lyme Regis Police tweeted: "Lucky escape for driver on the Hunters Lodge to Uplyme Road…. No injuries."
A Police source later added: "The tree roots gave out in the heavy rain which probably softened the soil around them, and it fell on the car that was being driven by a female who escaped without any injury."
The elderly woman is believed to have frozen to death in her garden and three men are in hospital after a bin lorry overturned in high winds on the M27 as chaos swept Britain today.

The pensioner was found at 10.30am on Sunday in the Pollokshields area of Glasgow, where temperatures had plunged below zero over the weekend.
Police said they are not treating the death as suspicious and a post-mortem examination will be carried out.
It follows the death in similar circumstances of Donald MacMillan, 73, and his wife Morag, 67, outside their home in the village of Gravir on the isle of Lewis, on Friday morning.
