What is the Doodle 4 Google competition, how do I enter and what does the winner get?

THIS year the Doodle 4 Google contest is in it's ninth year and it's asking students to get involved - if you think you can win, here is everything you need to know.

The competition is open for pupils from Kindergarten to year 12 of secondary school and you have to be a U.S. citizen to enter - but if you are eligible the prizes are incredible.

What is the Doodle 4 Google competition?

Each year, Google hold the competition Doodle 4 Google and it asks kids from the ages of 5 to 19 to submit a piece of artwork based on a specific theme.

The theme this year is 'What I see for the future...' and young artists are invited to send in their ideas about what they think might happen over the next few years.

The competition is completely free and the winning Doodle will feature on the search engine's homepage for a day, joining a number of other 'Google Doodles' before it.

  • Doodle: Artists can create their doodles using any materials they want.
  • Write:
    1. Artists are asked to write a 50-word statement describing their doodle, their message behind the artwork, or their artistic process.
    2. Fill out the rest of the required information and sign the entry form.

  •  Combine:
    1. If the doodle wasn't created directly on the entry form, take a digital photo or scan of the doodle and combine it with the entry form.
    2. If you're submitting a digital entry, save the completed entry form as a .png, or .jpg.
  • What does the winner get?

    In addition to featuring on the Google homepage for a day, the National Winner will also receive a number of other prizes including:

    - A $30,000 (£24,000) college scholarship

    - A $50,000 (£40,000) Google for Education Technology Award for their school or non-profit organisation

    National Finalists

    There will be four National Finalists who just missed out on the top stop but they will have their doodles featured in the Doodle 4 Google gallery and will receive:

    - A $5,000 (£4,000) college scholarship

    - A trip to the Google Headquarters in California

    For those who just miss out on top spot, they will still receive money towards a scholarship and a trip to Google HQ (drawn by Kouadio K, Grade 5)Credit: Google

    State and Territory Winners

    For those 48 State and Territory winners who don't become National Finalists will have their doodles included in the Doodle 4 Google gallery and will receive:

    - An Android tablet
