Leading Brexiteer slaps down chief Remoaner Tony Blair for trying to keep us in the EU and calls on the country to back Theresa May
Steve Baker said the public will see through the ex-PM's 'cynical ploy' to thwarting their vote to leave

THE PRIME Minister is on the right track with Brexit – and what’s important is that we get it right, not that we do it according to some artificial timetable out of Brussels.
But what of those who still want to deny the Referendum result?
Last month, Tony Blair launched a one man war to remain in the EU saying, “we’re the insurgents now”.
Apparently he’s plotting a return to UK politics in order to speak out on Brexit. The former PM has been admirably honest on this occasion – he has no intention of helping make Brexit a success.
All his energy is committed to thwarting the British people’s vote to leave the EU.
Given that, whatever he may argue for – the Single Market, a Customs Union or a second referendum – must not be taken at face value.
Tony Blair and his bitter band of die-hard remainers are the minority of a minority who do not wish Brexit to succeed.

Their plan is clearly to try and make the Brexit process as complicated and as long as possible. As an insurgent, Mr Blair has no interest in Brexit benefiting the British people.
His only chance of success is by causing as much damage as possible and to hope having done so he can then force the British people to reverse their decision to leave the EU.
This is a disastrous and self-indulgent policy. Brexit is too important to play political games with.
Putting forward ideas in the hope they will fail, or prevent the UK gaining the benefits of Brexit by continuing to accept EU regulations within the internal market and customs union, is a cynical ploy the British people will see through.
Let us not forget Tony Blair’s own record on the EU: He is the man who opened up the UK labour market to new migrants in 2004 without thought for British workers.
The man who promised then denied voters a referendum on the Lisbon Treaty, the man who traded away part of the UK budget rebate for nothing in return.
His analysis of the EU has consistently failed our country. He wished to join the Euro, only being forced to reconsider by a curious alliance of William Hague and Ed Balls.
He is the last person we should take advice from in reorganising our relations with the EU.
Brexit will need to be negotiated with one clear end in sight. We must maximize the benefits for all UK citizens. In short, we need to get this right.
This is why we should back Theresa May in her work. It’s a serious job, and she’s the best person for it.
