Who is Amanda Adlai? Missing Michigan girl linked to Madeleine McCann lookalike case
A GIRL seen wandering the streets of Rome for weeks speaking only English sparked theories she may be missing Madeleine McCann.
But a drive to identify her has led many to believe she could in fact be Amanda Adlai -- an American girl allegedly abducted by her own father and taken to his native Russia.
The girl's plight was highlighted on the Italian TV show , which features unsolved mysteries and missing persons cases.
After it aired, a number of people came forward to describe seeing her in the Italian capital.
Photographs posted on social media show the girl, who is said to respond to the name Maria, in dirty clothes with her brown hair in knots.
Some online detectives said she could be Madeleine McCann, who was abducted on a family holiday in the Algarve in May 2007.
However, photographs of the unidentified woman show she is likely older than Maddie, who would now only be aged 13.
The Missing Persons of America website -- who has been inundated with leads since the girl was spotted -- stated: “There have been several people that think it may be Madeline McCann who would be 13 now.
“Madeline had a distinctive mark on her eye and it would be easy to tell if it was her by that identification.”
The girl's face and apparent age bares a resemblance to missing Amanda Adlai who was taken from her home in Michigan by her estranged Russian father.
Amanda Adlai's story
Amanda Adlai was taken aged eight by her dad Victor Adlai, 46, on Boxing Day 2008 from her home in the town of Bloomfield.
The FBI issued a warrant for Victor's arrest the following February amid fears he may have fled with the girl to his native Russia.
The blonde-haired, blue-eyed girl, whose date of birth is 3 September 2001, would be fifteen today -- a similar age as the teen girl seen on the streets of Rome.
Mum Eugenia to help track her daughter down.
