‘Lion of London Bridge’ Millwall fan who fought machete-wielding jihadis to receive major bravery honour

A MILLWALL fan dubbed “The Lion of London Bridge” after he fought machete-wielding jihadis is to receive a major bravery honour.

Roy Larner, 54, was stabbed seven times by the three terrorists, who killed eight and injured 48 on the bridge and in nearby Borough Market in June 2017.

Roy, who was unarmed and shouted “F*** you, I’m Millwall” when he confronted the killers in the Black & Blue steakhouse, will get the Royal Humane Society’s Silver Medal this summer.

He said: “I’m overjoyed and humbled by everyone who put me forward for it.

“I can’t thank them enough.

“Finding out brought a tear to my eye.”

Andrew Chapman, from the society, said: “To say what Roy did was heroic would almost be an understatement.

“He confronted three terrorists who had already killed and maimed countless other people and he must have known they would kill him if they could.

“Despite this he stood his ground and as a result was terribly wounded and ended up close to death.

“A number of people owe their lives to him.”
