REMEMBERING DAD

My dad Lee Rigby’s murder was so traumatising it left me unable to speak… but now I’m honouring his memory

THE son of murdered soldier Lee Rigby has spoken of the horror of his hero dad's killing for the first time.

Jack Rigby was just two when jihadists Michael Adebolajo and Michael Adebowale hacked Fusilier Lee, 25, to death outside Woolwich Barracks, South East London.

Ten years on from the slaying which rocked Britain, Jack, now 12, is running a marathon for bereaved military kids in memory of his dad.

He told : "I want to raise £1,000 for every year my dad has been gone and would absolutely love to raise £10,000 for the 10-year anniversary.

"I feel proud. It also helps distract me from everything. It reminds me it's not all bad."

Lee, a drummer in the Fusiliers, was walking in civilian clothing along Wellington Street on May 22, 2013, when the jihadists ploughed a Vauxhall Tigra into him.

Crazed Adebolajo and Adebolawe screamed "Allahu Akbar" (God is great) as they got out and stabbed Lee to death with knives.

The killers - who had picked the dad out at random - then attempted to decapitate him in the 2.20pm horror.

Just moments after the broad daylight murder, bloodied Adebolajo attempted to justify the killing in a video obtained by The Sun and ITN.

Following his dad's death, a floral tribute from Jack read: "My Daddy, my hero. Your memory will live on in me. You made me proud and I will miss you for eternity."

He was so shocked by his dad's murder he lost the ability to speak for months.

Lee's widow and Jack's mum Rebecca, 40, said despite Jack being a toddler at the time, his dad's cold-blooded killing still affects the youngster.

The teacher, from Halifax, West Yorks, added: “That’s not how it works.

"He wants to show how even though he's grown up without Lee, he's not forgotten his dad."

Jack will be walking and running the May Marathon over the course of a month for Scotty's Little Soldiers, a charity that has supported him in the decade since his dad's murder.

Lee's mum Lyn Rigby said this month she wanted to die after her son's murder but was saved by her family.

Lee, from Middleton, Greater Manchester joined the Army in 2006.

He had served in Cyprus, Germany and Afghanistan before becoming a recruiter with ceremonial duties at the Tower of London.

His killers, both of Nigerian heritage, were raised as Christians before becoming involved in radical Islam.

Adebolajo, 28 at the time of the attack, had studied at the University of Greenwich.

He became involved with al-Muhajiroun, the banned extremist group led by bile-monger hate preacher Anjem Choudary.

In 2010, he and five others were deported back to the UK from Kenya where he was suspected of intending to train with terror group al-Shabaab.

Adebolajo is currently serving a whole life term at maximum security HMP Woodhill, in Milton Keynes, Bucks, where he is a de-radicalisation advisor.

The killer - who claims he has renounced violence - was last year banned from taking part in yoga sessions through fears he would start radicalising others.

Adebowale, 22 when he killed Lee, was said to have been heavily influenced by the more forceful Adebolajo.

In February 2015, he was sentenced to a minimum of 45 years in 'Monster Mansion' HMP Wakefield.
