MPs pay moving tributes to murdered MP Jo Cox as her killer Thomas Mair is sentenced to life in jail

MPS PAID moving tributes to Jo Cox as news of the verdict swept through the Commons.
Speaking from the backbenches Jo’s friend and fellow Labour MP Rachel Reeves said: “I hope that the whole life sentence for Jo’s murderer can at least give some comfort to her family at this incredible difficult time and will also enable us to remember Jo for the way that she lived rather than the way in which she was murdered.”
Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn MP said her murder had “robbed the world of an ambassador of kindness and compassion”.
He said: “Jo Cox believed passionately that all people can achieve their full potential given the opportunity.
“Jo’s values were lived out in her last moments, when she bravely put the safety of her staff before her own.”
Home Secretary Amber Rudd said Jo was a “committed and passionate” politician, who was “devoted to her young children and husband”.
Describing her murder as “shocking and senseless”, she said: “Jo’s life was brutally taken away. It falls on all of us to redouble our efforts to make sure the principles that she stood for live on.
Another pal Barnsley MP Dan Jarvis added: “Thoughts are with Brendan Cox and Jo’s family today. We will never forget Jo and all she stood for.”

Labour MP Yvette Cooper said the verdict was justice for Jo.
She said: “Thoughts with all Jo’s family and friends and for the amazing woman we lost”.
Shadow Chancellor John McDonnell called her killing “an attack on democracy itself”.
He said: “Jo Cox’s murder robbed this House of a fierce advocate for social justice and a passionate campaigner. Our thoughts are with her family.”
Baroness Glenys Kinnock, who was a close friend of Jo, described her as a “remarkable” woman.
She said: “We’ll all feel very conscious of the need to promote and persevere with what Jo stood for.”
