Following unrest over the Buckingham Palace refurbishment, the details of Her Majesty's spending has been revealed

THE massive £369 million sum for refurbishing Buckingham Palace announced last Friday has reignited debate about how money the Royal Family cost taxpayers each year.

This refurbishment will be paid for through the Sovereign Grant, which is provided to The Queen by the government for her official duties.

reports that £19.5 million from the Sovereign Grant paid for The Queen's 431 staff members.

She has also to spend a sizeable amount on her 96,000 guests, including half a million pounds on wine and spirits alone in 2015/16.

The food and drink bill for Her Majesty was £1.4 million.

Campaigners have joined the call for The Monarchy to foot the bill to refurbish Buckingham Palace.

The government agreed to wave through a rise in the Sovereign Grant, currently at 15 per cent, for the 10-year repair job, which will begin next April if approved by MPs.
