BREXIT blocker Gina Miller says she has been forced to beef up security after claiming she has a £5,000 "bounty" on her head.

The Remain campaigner is spearheading the Article 50 court battle challenging PM Theresa May's bid to avoid a Parliamentary vote on Brexit.

Mrs Miller says she has received a barrage of abuse and death threats from Brits who voted to leave the EU since her successful High Court bid earlier this month.

The 51-year-old, who runs investment firm SCM Direct with husband Alan, wouldn't reveal how much the battle has cost her personally.

But she claims she has been forced to fork out £60,000 on tighter security measures.

The former model-turned-banker told the Sunday Times: "There is a security burden that I had not envisaged.

"I have had to take measures for myself and my staff as well as for the business and website - all in all, we're talking £50,000-£60,000. It may be more, depending on what happens at the Supreme Court."

She added: "Somebody has put a bounty on my head on social media, offering £5,000 to anybody who runs me over."

The news comes as the equalities watchdog appealed for politicians on both sides of the bitter row to tone down their rhetoric.

The Equality and Human Rights Commission warned that the hostility in the debate was polarising the UK and fuelling a rise in hate attacks.

In a letter sent to the big political parties, the watchdog said: "We are concerned that attacks on supporters of both sides of the Brexit debate have polarised many parts of the country.

"There are those who used, and continue to use, public concern about immigration policy and the economy to legitimise hate.

"The vast majority of people who voted to leave the European Union did so because they believe it is best for Britain and not because they are intolerant of others."

Nigel Farage has also claimed he received death threats following the vote, and is now flanked by security guards after he was threatened with a glass at a bar last week.
