Devon and Cornwall Police said the victim is from the Bedfordshire area.

One eye witness, who asked not to be named, said: "We were just leaving the holiday park.

"Armed police, lots of ambulances, air ambulance, the lot, and a huge crowd of people at the beach.

"I was driving away from the holiday park and just had them all whizzing past us and wasn't sure what was happening.

"Seemed quite serious for armed police etc to be there but it appears it's a usual thing here sadly with surfers."
