Tottenham Hostpur mad dad-of-two spent four years and £15,000 making Britian’s best man cave

A FOOTBALL mad dad spent four years and £15,000 creating the ultimate tribute to his beloved Tottenham Hotspur.

Darron Stump has since been crowned the winner of Britain's best man cave for his efforts.

He made the football haven in his Hornchurch, Essex, back garden.

It includes a bar, memorabilia, dart board and pool table.

Last week the 'mantuary' - dubbed 'Stumpy's Games Room' - was shortlisted as a finalist for Games Room of the Year 2016 competition.

Today Darron was announced the winner having received the highest number of public votes landing him a £4,000 Terminator 2 pinball machine.

The dad-of-two, who is a Spurs season ticket holder, said: "I'm absolutely delighted to be able to say I've got the best games room in the UK.

"It's taken a lot of time and effort to get it looking just how I want it to, but this recognition is a great reward for all the hard work and expense.

"I've supported Tottenham all my life and collected Spurs memorabilia over the years.

"It's always been in my loft, but no one ever sees it, so I've always had a vision of building a games room so that I can put it out for people to enjoy it and so that other people can as well.

"It was finished two to three years ago and was a combined effort from me and my wife Jane, which went right from digging out the foundations, through to putting in the finishing touches and hanging the pictures on the wall."

Darron kept the games room secret from friends, spending four to five years building the room from scratch at the bottom of his garden.

With the help of wife Jane and their two daughters Tia and Chloe, the family all chipped in and spent around four months solid in working hours completing the project.

Darron added: "It was a case of saving up here and then and getting it finished bit by bit.

"We went one year without doing any work on it, as didn't have the funds to carry on.

"But when it was finished and people stepped foot in the place we actually had one or two tears as people just thought it was a shed at the end of the garden.

"I love my family and Spurs very much so the games room is absolutely ideal for our situation.

"I'd also like to thank every single person that voted for me, it's very much appreciated by myself and the family."

The competition, run by Home Leisure Direct, saw entrants from all over the UK competing to win the prize.

Having been whittled down to 10 finalists by an in-house team of judges the games room finalists were put forward to the public vote.

Over a two-week voting window, Darron emerged as the winner with Simon Randall of Barnstaple, Devon in second spot.

Andy Beresford, managing director of Home Leisure Direct, said: "It's been another close fought fight.

"Simon's entry, Randall's Tavern, is a magnificent games room and although he managed to go one better than last year, it was Darron's new entry into the Games Room competition that pipped him to the post."
