The University of Sheffield offers £29,000 salary for part-time beekeeper position

UK university expects the successful candidate to carry out weekly inspection of bee colonies

One of Britain's leading research universities is advertising for a part-time beekeeper for a £29,000 salary.

The University of Sheffield are offering the post on a pro-rata pay basis, with those who excel having the opportunity to earn up to £32,000.

The role is for an experienced beekeeper to work on a research project developing robotic controllers for aerial robots.

A keen apiarist is being sought to take part in "at least weekly inspections of four bee colonies, as well as health inspections, pest and disease management and honey extraction".

Candidates are also expected to hold a British Beekeepers Association diploma.

A spokesperson for student newspaper said: "We don't know about you, but our applications are in already."
