I stood by my paedo teacher wife after she had sex with 15-year-old pupil – but sudden change meant I had to leave her
THE ex-husband of paedophile teacher Kandice Barber has opened up about why he suddenly dumped her after years by her side.
Loyal Daniel Barber, 40, shouted “it’s a joke” when his wife was found guilty of having sex with a 15-year-old pupil in a field, before being locked up for more than six years.
Daniel has now revealed why he supported the woman he’d been with since 2015 – until he didn’t.
The 40-year-old says he split with Barber about two years ago, and is now in a happy relationship with his new partner Charlotte Smith.
Speaking exclusively to The Sun Daniel said he stood at Barber’s side through her trials because he had no reason to doubt what she was telling him.
And he supported her when she was locked up because he was looking after her three sons – and he didn’t want them taken into care.
Daniel told The Sun: “She’s been in prison for three years, we haven’t been together for over two years.
“I was always brought up until you’ve proven guilty, or not guilty, why should I not stand by someone?
“So I stood by someone in the belief they were innocent and that everything’s going to be fine.
“I stood by her because she had kids, and I didn’t want the kids to be taken into care.”
But, there was a moment he realised he couldn’t do it anymore.
Daniel said he needed someone at his side while he navigated grief – and his wife wasn’t there.
He recalled: “In that whole first year I lost my stepdad and then my sister died.
“The one person that should have been there for me wasn’t.
“When you’re married to someone and someone dies in your family, the one person you want is the person you’re married to or you’re with to support you, and I didn’t have that.”
Daniel said the pair are now divorced – and he’s happily loved up with girlfriend Charlotte.
He added: “I’ve moved on, I’m happy, nothing will bring me down.
“It’s taken me a long way to get where I am, but I wouldn’t turn back the clocks and change anything because going through this stuff has made me who I am today.”
I stood by someone in the belief they were innocent and that everything’s going to be fine.
Daniel Barber
The 40-year-old defended his decision to stand by his wife – though he said he wouldn’t it on anyone.
Daniel said: “I don’t regret anything in life, I don’t regret supporting her.
“But It’s a situation I never ever expected to ever be in, do I wish it upon anyone? No, I don’t wish it upon my worst enemy.”
Barber, who worked at a school in Princes Risborough, Bucks, had added herself to a teen boy’s Snapchat account in September 2018 and exchanged messages that became sexual.
She sent him a topless picture and a video of a sexual act before, in October 2018, going to a field with him to have sex.
In 2021, Barber, from Wendover, was convicted of causing a child to engage in sexual activity.
The mum-of-three was branded “beyond despicable” by the judge who sent her down.
Her mum said she still denies romping with the lad – but confirmed Barber would not be appealing her sentence.
