FACEBOOK founder Mark Zuckerberg has claimed all the world's diseases can be cured - but it is going to need massive investment.

Last night Zuckerberg took to his social media site to herald the passing of the 21st Century Cures Act through the US House of Representatives.

The new bill, which includes billions of dollars for scientific research and fighting disease, will also speed up the drug approval process and support programs for substance and mental health disorders.

In a post on his , Zuckerberg wrote: "It's great to see the 21st Century Cures Act -- which will put billions of dollars towards scientific research and fighting diseases -- pass through the US House of Representatives today.

"I think it's possible to cure all diseases in our children's lifetime, but we need to invest much more to get there.

"The US government currently spends 50x more treating people who are sick than finding cures so people don't get sick in the first place.

"Today is an important step towards changing that, and I hope the Senate follows the House's lead."

The 21st Century Bill is expected to pass the Senate next week, allowing President Barack Obama to sign it into law before the end of the year.

The drug approval aspect of the bill has caused controversy because it includes relying on "real-world evidence" that drugs work, instead of time consuming clinical trials.

This is not the first time Zuckerberg has addressed tackling world health.

The Facebook CEO and his wife Priscilla Chan announced in September that they will spend more than £2.3billion toward an ambitious plan to eradicate all diseases with a generation.

Speaking through tears at a San Francisco event to announce the initiative, Chan said she hoped to “cure, prevent or manage all disease within our children’s lifetime”.
