Seven hours later, counter terrorism officers arrested a second man, a 28-year-old Canadian, who landed at Heathrow on a flight from Canada.

Both men were held on suspicion of being members of a banned organisation in contravention of the Terrorism Act 2000.

They were being held at a West London police station last night as cops searched three properties in East London.

Trained lawyer Choudary was for many years the UK’s most prominent Islamic extremist.

He was jailed for 5½ years in 2016 after being convicted of a terror charge over inviting support for ISIS.

In January, Choudary condemned Prince Harry’s claims in his autobiography Spare that he killed 25 Taliban fighters while serving in Afghanistan.

A Met Police spokesman said: “Counter terrorism detectives have today arrested two men as part of an investigation into suspected terrorism offences.

“Both were arrested on suspicion of membership of a proscribed organisation, contrary to section 11 of the Terrorism Act 2000.

“They are currently being held under section 41 of the Terrorism Act 2000 at a West London police station.

“Police searches of three addresses in East London are ongoing.”
