TERRIFIED tourists were forced to run for cover after a masked gunman opened fire on a packed Costa del Sol restaurant.

Dramatic footage taken from a nearby window shows a man firing on people at the resort town of Puerto Banus using a submachine gun while panicked swimsuit-clad holidaymakers flee the scene.

The attacker is thought to have gotten out of a car moments before he opened fire, reportedly three times.

He then sped away in the motor, driven by an accomplice.

The drama happened around 6 pm on Tuesday near the Cristamar shopping centre - home to shops, offices, and restaurants - in the heart of Puerto Banus.

The resort is usually thronging with tourists from the UK at this time of year.

Cops understand no one was injured in the horror, and no arrests have been made so far.

Unconfirmed reports say the getaway vehicle used in the shooting may be a BMW -  which was later found engulfed in flames, according to local media.

Last year, a club in nearby Marbella was the scene of a bloodbath after a gunman opened fire indoors.

The shooting is believed to have occurred during a fight between two groups of revellers in a VIP area of the beach club at around 1am.

One could be seen grabbing a large bottle while others took their shirts off as if they were preparing for a punch-up.
