SEX robots will allow kinky couples to indulge in futuristic threesomes WITHOUT getting jealous, a leading sex therapist has claimed.

US author and sex counsellor Ian Kerner has said the life-like bots will allow couples to enact fantasies they might not otherwise try with a human.

Kerner also said that if one partner has a "higher libido" it could allow him or her to feel sexually fulfilled without straying.

The expert also said it could help couples break out of dry patches by spicing up their love lives.

Life-like sex robots, which are already on sale but costs thousands of pounds, could also help to keep long distance relationships alive.

Couples will have to assess how they define "cheating" for robot-involved threesomes to work, Kerner added.

Sex therapist Heather McPherson said: "If you haven't discussed it with your partner it's cheating".

Kerner, , said: "The hypothetical applications of sex robots and related products, part of a field called technosexuality, seem endless.

"I could see couples using them to enact fantasies, such as a threesome, that they might not feel comfortable trying with real people.

"If one partner has a higher libido, a robot could allow him or her to enjoy a fulfilling sex life without straying.

"And robots might help couples break out of sex ruts by adding spice to their relationship or maintaining long-distance relationships."

Sex expert Holly Richmond added that robots could also be useful for virgins or anxious love-makers.

Ms Richmond said: "Robots could be useful for virgins or for people with social anxiety who wish to grain practice before actually having sex with a partner."

Sex therapist Ari Tuckman said robots will be a welcome relief for people who have mental or physical disabilities impeding their chances of finding a partner.

Tuckman added: "Technosexuality could potentially open up sexual experiences to everyone.

"Even people who seemingly have limited options."

At this year's Sexpo in Melbourne, Australia, a robot pole dancer provided a window into how strip clubs might look in the future.

Wise-cracking sex robots have been developed to help men improve their dating skills.

A coffee shop in Switzerland will have robot prostitutes inside to give oral sex while people get their caffeine fix.
