The study found some residents agreed there was nothing to do in the city, it's lacking scenic gardens, has zero shops, not much affordable housing and everyone is unfriendly.

But many said they enjoy what the small city has to offer and will never move.

One thing people are arguing is actually on offer is the amount of outdoor space.

Salford is home to 60 parks and open spaces - dubbing it one of the greenest metropolitan areas in the UK.

Wendy Rogers, 65, who is born and bred, said there are plenty of parks to go on nice walks around and doesn't see why people are complaining.

She told : "I love the area. I love the parks, I go when I’m down."

Many were also quick to defend the amount of shopping centres that are on offer.

Shelia Brundrett, 81, said her absolute favourite thing about Salford is the shops.

However, they have nearby rugby teams Salford Red Devils and Sale Sharks as well as Lancashire Cricket Club and Salford City FC.

And Salford City Council bosses are still working to bring in more homes which will be affordable.

In March this year, they announced their plan was to build just over 5,000 new homes.

It's not the only area which has received a bashing.

Colchester residents say it's the most miserable place in Britain with it ranking bottom of the Office for National Statistics's happiness league.

And Bradford, in West Yorkshire, was found to be just as bad because it gets the least amount of sunshine.
