Jeremy Corbyn’s old family mansion up for sale for £650,000 – which he describes as ‘an old farm’
The Labour leader's family home which he grew up in - a country house with five bedrooms and an acre of land - is on the market
JEREMY CORBYN'S old family home in the country is up for sale for more than half a million pounds.
Yew Tree Manor, a country house with five bedrooms and an acre of gardens - is on the market for £650,000 after the current owners decided to sell it.
The 67-year-old Labour leader grew up in the property after his father David, an electrical engineer, bought the place in the 1950s.
The manor, near Newport in Shropshire, is described as a "17th century farmhouse set in beautiful gardens".
Photos show timber beams throughout the house, oak floorboards, four reception rooms with open fireplaces, and a huge kitchen.
Outside there is a paddock, a pond and a small stream, with a large lawn on the front of the property.
The house, built in the 1680s, was home for the Labour leader when he was a child. He was six when the family moved in, and his mum named the place Yew Tree House.
The listing from Savills estate agents says the property "retains a wealth of original and later period features, such as the exposed timber frame which is visible through the central portion of the house."
Mr Corbyn said the home, which was once part of the Duke of Sutherland's Lilleshall estate, was a "pretty nice place to grow up in".
Piers Corbyn, the leader's brother, described the "country bumpkin lifestyle" the boys enjoyed.
"It was far too big, but we had a whale of a time," he said.
But when asked on ITV's Peston on Sunday if he was middle class, the leader said "Oh God, I don't know."
He added that the new owners of the manor had "spent a lot more money on it than my mum and dad were able to".
The Labour leader earns £74,962 per year as an MP, and an extra £58,000 as leader of the Opposition.
