A MINDLESS thug attacked a man and his dog with a baseball bat in the middle of a street.

Shocking CCTV footage shows the dog walker and his pet being whacked repeatedly as they try to fend him off.

The broad daylight attack took place shortly after 12.40pm on Wednesday in Salford, Manchester.

After a heated exchange the men walk back down Barton Lane and out of shot.

One witness, who has asked not to be named, said "It’s just not what you expect to see at dinner time.

“They were clearly having some sort of argument, he repeatedly struck the other guy and the dog at least twice.”

The witness contacted the police and the RSPCA after the attack.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said they were aware of the assault but had not heard from the alleged victim.
