A MAN who survived three rounds of cancer and two bouts of meningitis has been killed in a car crash.
Ryan McCaul died this morning after a crash between a car and a van.
He had cancer three times and had previously been in a coma for a month after a car crash a decade ago.
The man in his thirties was just a few miles from his home in Gortnahey in Co Derry, Northern Ireland.
He is thought to have worked as a computer-aided design technician for E&I Engineering Ltf in Burnfoot.
His relative Tony McCaul, who is a Sinn Fein councillor, told : "The family are in bits, they’re devastated. I couldn’t even speak to his mother as she was in such a bad state. She is just heartbroken.
"He was a good lad, a really bubbly fella. He always had a smile on his face. He beat cancer three times and ran a lot of marathons for cancer charities."
Local politicians said it was the second death on the A6 in ‘a few weeks’ and urged drivers to be extra cautious and allow for extra time on journeys in poor weather conditions.
Police have launched an appeal for information after the car crash and have asked witnesses to come forward.
