Southern Rail says ‘sorry’ more than any other firm – apologising to customers 111 times a day

BELEAGUERED Southern Rail apologises 111 times a day to its long-suffering customers - making it the most apologetic transport system.

The train company has been recorded as saying sorry almost 38,000 this year, topping Southeastern's more than 34,000 apologies and Northern's 24,800 regrets.

The social media apologies, collected by , range from messages saying sorry for train delays, industrial action and other railway dramas.

Thameslink has apologised about 17,600 times while Southwest isn't far behind with 14,700 sorry messages.

Virgin has apologised about 10,00 times this year.

Great Northern, C2C and Metrolink have all apologised between 6000 and 9000 times each during 2016.

Stage Coach and Transport for London have apologised the least - with about 5000 and 2,800 apologies each.

The new figures comes as Southern Rail is hit with strikes in a bitter dispute over changes to the role of conductors.

 

 

 

Southern's place at the top the table is not surprising in a year when it has faced repeated calls from the public and politicians to be stripped of its franchise due to the poor quality of its service.

The operator has been engaged in a long struggle with the RMT union over its plans to bring in driver-only operation of train doors on all services - while there have also been issues with network upgrades and staff shortages.
