Joe Rogan wows fans after sharing country star Oliver Anthony’s new viral blue collar anthem Rich Men North of Richmond
JOE Rogan has wowed his fans by sharing the viral blue-collar anthem Rich Men North of Richmond by country star Oliver Anthony.
The podcast host shared a link to the song on Twitter and received thousands of replies from people praising Anthony’s music.
“It’s a banger,” wrote one person.
“This is what authentic sounds like,” wrote another person.
“You can’t sing like this without having walked through the fire. I wish this man and his family well. Great song!”
Anthony’s performing the song, which was uploaded three days ago, has already racked up 2.3million views.
In another posted to his YouTube channel on August 7, shortly before the song dropped, he said that “Lord willing” the song would “get some traffic” and some listeners would find his page.
The song was his first recorded with a professional microphone instead of a cell phone.
Anthony has been writing his own songs since 2021.
“Things were obviously not good for a lot of people, and in some respects, I was one of those people,” he said.
“And I had wasted a lot of nights getting high and getting drunk, and I had sort of gotten to a point in my life where even things I did care about didn’t mean anything to me anymore.
“I mean, this is certainly no Dr. Phil episode,” he continued.
“But I’ve found an outlet in this music.”
Anthony said that his music made him feel like he has a “purpose” and he wasn’t “just wasting his time.”
“Kinda in the last rollercoaster of the last year, I have decided that this is going to be what I do,” he said.
“At all costs, no matter what, I’m going to write, create, and produce as much original, authentic music as I can in the hopes that it will at least help somebody out there that needs it.”
Anthony said that he feels this success is “the beginning of what’s to come” and spoke about meeting people around the US on job sites who are struggling financially.
“The universal thing I see is that, it’s like no matter how hard they push and how much effort they put into whatever it is they’re doing, they just quite can’t get ahead,” he said.
“Because the dollar’s not worth enough, it’s being overtaxed,” he said.
“People are just sick and tired of being sick and tired.”
Anthony wants to be a voice for those people.
“And not just them, just humans in general, and some of the struggles and battles that they go through.”
The Virginian writes music in his free time and lives on a 90-acre land in FarmVille with his three dogs.
