Why does Mike Tindall not have an official royal title?
MIKE Tindall is a rugby legend who graced our screens on I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here in 2022.
He married into the royal family in 2011, so why does he not have an official royal title?
Why does Mike Tindall not have an official royal title?
Mike Tindall married Zara Phillips, now Zara Tindall, in 2011.
Phillips is the daughter of the seventh Princess Royal, Anne, the eldest daughter of our late Queen Elizabeth II.
Zara Phillips was Anne’s second child with her first husband, Mark Phillips.
Although it seems like Zara and Mike should both have a royal title, Zara did not get one in the first place.
Centuries old royal tradition says that royal titles can only be carried through the men of the family.
So, Princess Anne normally wouldn’t have been able to give her children a royal title.
However, the Queen did ask Anne if she wanted her children to have a royal title.
Anne said no as she wanted them to stay out of the limelight.
Phillips has said she felt lucky that the decision had been made for her.
With his wife having no official title, Tindall goes without one too.
Is Mike Tindall in line to the throne?
Even without a royal title, surprisingly, Tindall is still in line for the throne.
Zara Phillips’ brother, Peter, is 17th in line and Zara is 20th, followed by her and Mike’s two children.
So, there is a possibility that Zara and Mike remain in the line of succession whilst not being working royals or having royal titles.
Why does Mike Tindall have an OBE and MBE?
An MBE is a Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire.
It is awarded for an outstanding achievement or service to the community and it even entitles holders and their children to be able to get married in St Paul’s Cathedral.
Mike Tindall was awarded an MBE in 2007 for his contribution to rugby.
He played the extremely important role of center in the England Rugby team that won the Rugby World Cup in 2003.
An OBE is an Order of the British Empire.
It is similar to the MBE in that it is awarded to individuals who have made major contributions at a local level, or whose work has national outreach.
Tindall also got the OBE for his contribution to rugby.
