Some 1,000 troops donned ceremonial uniforms as they danced the night away with partners in fancy evening gowns at the Kremlin Cadet Ball in Moscow on Thursday.
Boys and girls can be enrolled in Vladimir Putin's elite cadet troops as young as eight.
Most of the youngsters who attended the ball are orphans and some had come from as far afield as Spain, Greece and Eastern Europe.
Photographs from the glamorous ball show the cadets making a grand entrance by walking down a staircase arm-in-arm with their partners.
Then then lined up in precise rows at the centre of the Gostiny Dvor, the city's old merchant court, before performing traditional dances.

Love was clearly in the air for some as one couple were spotted kissing at the end of the night.
