We wanted Lucy Letby to be our sick baby’s godmother we trusted her so much… now we think she tried to kill him
A COUPLE who once wanted to make Lucy Letby the godmother of their sick son say they've come to believe she tried to kill him.
The thought of Letby, 33, caring for their baby now makes the young parents feel "physically sick".
The twisted nurse was last week found guilty of murdering seven babies and attempting to kill others.
The coward then refused to show her face as the judge ruled she would die behind bars.
Now one couple who was not involved in the court case has opened up about when Letby was caring for their premature son in February 2016.
The parents said they were fond of her at the time as even after their boy was discharged she kept reaching out and checking in.

For seven days after their son was born the parents couldn't hold him - and it was the monster nurse who first placed their newborn in their arms.
The parents say Letby spent hours calming their nerves, explaining how things worked and making them feel at ease.
They say they thought she was so "nice" they had discussed making her their boy's godmother.
But they claim there were also times when Letby was caring for their small baby that he had sudden dips in his health.

Looking back now, they think the twisted nurse tried to kill him.
The couple, who did not want to be named as they wanted to protect their children, explained that up until Letby was arrested they though she was great to them.
The mum told the : "She was there day and night, we'd have long conversations with her, especially at night when it was quiet.
"She'd talk about her house, she talked about her parents a lot, she really thought the world of them, her cats, going out with other nurses socialising… I came to think of her as a friend."
As a result, the family said they never suspected a thing when their son's health declined when Letby was looking after him.
They claimed there was a day when their boy had an unusual amount of blood in his nappy - and doctors couldn't find a cause.
There was another time when he suddenly collapsed as Letby was about to hand him over to night staff - but they luckily helped him recover.
She kept in contact, I thought she was taking a real interest in his life, so I thought, why not include her in his life?
Father of premature baby
And, after the couple were discharged Letby kept in contact - sending them wishes when their son was unwell.
She appeared to show a real interest in him, asking about his condition and if he was still needing "any help breathing".
It was then that the dad suggested making the nurse their boy's godfather.
He said: "When he was in the hospital she couldn't do enough for us.
"She kept in contact, I thought she was taking a real interest in his life, so I thought, why not include her in his life?"
The mum said the realisation that Letby was on a killing spree when she was caring for their son "physically sickened" her.
Letby had used insulin and air to inject newborns in a year-long killing spree while working on the neo-natal ward at the Countess of Chester Hospital.

Letby was convicted of seven counts of murder following a nine-month trial and 22 days of jury deliberation.
