A TERRIFIED passenger on a flight from hell through an 80mph storm smashing Majorca has told how she thought the plane would fall from the sky.

Estela Orts feared for her life as the passenger jet passed above the Balearic holiday islands yesterday during a ferocious hurricane-strength weather front that downed trees, sent debris smashing into hotels and snapped a Brit-packed cruise ship from its mooring.

The performer was on her way from Alicante in Spain to Magaluf where she works in the resort's famous Pirate show when the jet ploughed head-first into the storm.

She told : "When I felt that we were falling sharply, I began to have an anxiety attack.

"My legs and hands trembled, it was a situation that I could not control, it was not up to me to save myself and it created even more anxiety.

"I started crying to the point of closing my eyes and thinking, 'I have come so far'.

MAJORCA STORM

"It was the first time in my life that it has ever crossed my mind to think that this is it."

She filmed as screaming passengers yelled and vomited while the plane lurched through the sky being battered by gales.

Estela added: "The plane started to fall. People and children were screaming, being sick, I couldn't help crying.

"I don't know how long that moment lasted but it felt eternal.

"Until the pilot managed to stabilise the plane, it was like a roller coaster."

The captain told horrified passengers that the plane was being pelted by winds reaching 130km/hr (80mph) that were making it impossible to land.

Eventually after two failed attempts to land at Palma the captain turned the plane around and headed back to Alicante.

Esta's ordeal comes as a Brit family told how they had to run for their lives with three screaming children amid 75mph on Majorca during the storm.

Newly-engaged Jessica Gorman, on holiday with Scott Goodall and their children, said: "It was so windy, I felt like the the pram was moving side to side… it was horrendous."

Jessica and her family were one of the many Brit holidaymakers to face despair as strong winds and heavy rains slammed Spain on its Mediterranean coast on Sunday.

The storm also hit the touristic Balearic archipelago, causing serious damage and flight disruptions.

Gusts of up to 75mph, downpours, and hail also hit Catalonia and Valencia on mainland Spain, which were all under a high-risk warning by the national meteorological agency AEMET.

Local authorities reported several people were injured, according to the Spanish press.

Fallen trees and flooded streets were also reported across the region.

The wind also snapped the moorings of a 1,080ft P&O cruise ship stationed in Palma, driving it into a moored oil tanker and injuring six people, local port authorities said.
