HE'S the madcap inventor whose incredible inventions helped to him become one of Britain's biggest online stars.

Now Colin Furze, 37, has opened up to reveal some of the nailbiting moments in his astonishing career.

Colin hit the news last week when he unveiled a replica of the famous AT-AT walker from Star Wars.

The brave Brit inventor has also built a gravity-defying 360 degree swing and a homemade hoverbike, before managing to ride them both without coming to harm.

But not all of Colin's escapades have been incident-free.

In an interview with The Sun Online, Colin said fell in love with tinkering when he just a child.

"We used to burn asbestos on the fire to watch it explode," he said after we asked if he was a naughty kid.

"That's what I loved about my childhood: there was no health and safety. My YouTube channel is all about that."

The first of his incredible inventions was a swing built over a quarry near his home in Stamford, Lincolnshire.

"We were only about 12 and would tie shopping trolleys to it, before swinging out over a ravine," he remembered.

"My mum used to be terrified about what we were getting up to. Looking back, I think: 'I bet you were.'"

The swing was Colin and his friends' secret until one day, a boy swung out over the chasm and lost his grip on the rope.

"This bloke couldn't hold his own weight, so fell off and dropped through all these trees," he recalled.

"He broke both arms and a leg and ripped an ear off.

"The owners of the quarry pulled the tree down after that, which was a damn shame."

Colin left school at 16 and was working as a plumber before discovering YouTube about 10 years ago and shooting to fame by riding a weedy looking motor scooter around his own self-built wall of death.

He then won a massive audience on the emerging site after building a record-breaking mobility scooter which propelled itself at 70 mph and a pram which reached speeds of 30 mph.

The inventor's most testing moment came when he built a jet engine out of "stuff bought in Homebase", including "loo roll holders, bog brush tubes and a turbo from a van".

Colin accidentally left the top of a gas bottle untightened and it then ignited when sparks flew out of the back of the engine.

"It ignited all the gas on the bench, which went up in my face and took all the skins off my arms as well as the skin on the tip of my nose," he said.

He then jumped in the shower, before consulting Google to find out what to do if you suffer a burn.

"So I ran down to the kitchen, stark naked, and covered myself in clingfilm - which isn't easy when you're dripping wet.

"Then I drove myself to the hospital".

Of course, Colin not only lived to tell the tale, but built ever more ambitious projects to his ever-growing online audience, using skills he picked up along the way to push himself towards ever greater heights of crazed creativity.

"I don't do anything which no-one else can do," he says modestly.

"That's what I try to put across in my videos."
