Our brazenly mutinous civil service is crippling the Government and harming democracy itself
Whitehall revolt
OUR brazenly mutinous civil service is not only crippling the Government, as it intends. It is harming democracy itself.
For all the Tories’ failings, Whitehall set out to sabotage them the day voters backed them to get Brexit done.
Dominic Cummings never did get to purge the clock-watching incompetents and Labour-loving Remainer insurgents: A calamitous missed opportunity.
We now have a partisan, activist civil service which considers it clever, edgy and cool to undermine Tory policies it dislikes. That’s a disaster for democracy.
The Remainer Left care no more about that now than when they paralysed Parliament for three years trying to thwart the Leave vote.
And with Tory blood in the water, they are in open revolt.

Governing effectively ever again will be impossible with Whitehall still dominated by left-wing Europhiles willing them to fail.
Britain on sick
MANY people newly claiming sickness benefits post-Covid are genuinely ill.
But plenty are not. They got hooked on leisure time during the pandemic and were signed off too readily by doctors.
So Welfare Secretary Mel Stride is right to make claiming harder while coaxing people back into work.
It’s good for them — and the economy.

No money Left
LABOUR carps at “13 years of Tory failure”. But that didn’t bankrupt Birmingham.
A bungling Labour council did that.
