He told LBC: “It is clearly pre-planned, the fact that he could strap himself onto the bottom of the wagon.”

Sir Mark added a prison escape is “unlikely to be something you do on the spur of the moment”.

Asked if police are looking into whether it was an “inside job”, the commissioner said: “It is a question. Did anyone inside the prison help him? Other prisoners, guard staff? Was he helped by people outside the walls or was it simply all of his own creation?”

He added it is “extremely concerning” that Khalife is “on the loose”.

  • Deep dive into Khalife’s alleged crimes, continued

During a previous court appearance, he was accused of “eliciting” personal information about soldiers from the Ministry of Defence Joint Personnel Administration System.

  • Britain's world-class army training 'works against' police

Daniel Khalife being a trained soldier is making things hard for police, Hunted's Mel Thomas has said.

Mr Thomas, 54, who served in the police for 30 years, told the PA news agency: "What you've got to consider is that we consider ourselves to have the best military in the world, so he's had the best training - you can't dispute that.

"Because you're no longer in the Army or in the armed forces, it doesn't mean you become untrained overnight, that experience is always with you.

"What the organisations have got against them is it's good weather, it's not cold at night, so even sleeping rough is not going to be uncomfortable.

"You could happily find somewhere comfortable and, as an ex-military individual, he'll be used to sleeping outside.

"What will come into play more than anything else will be the individual's resilience."

  • Comment: Tories must turn around overcrowded, cesspit prisons

The following is a comment piece by The Sun...

THE movie-style jailbreak of terror suspect Daniel Khalife is a mind-boggling fiasco.

If it’s not exactly the last thing Rishi Sunak needed, it’s close.

Wandsworth jail is a filthy shambles, under-manned by guards whose morale is at rock-bottom.

Justice Secretary Alex Chalk has to turn it around — along with all our overcrowded, cesspit prisons — and improve staff retention across the service.

But no one yet knows if any of that was to blame for Khalife exiting beneath a catering van.

  • Khalife's alleged offences

According to the Met Police, this is the full list of Khalife’s alleged offences:

    • August 2, 2021, at Beaconside, Stafford, Staffordshire, elicited or attempted to elicit information of a kind likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism, contrary to section 58A of the Terrorism Act 2000.
    • On or before January 2, 2023 at Beaconside, Stafford, Staffordshire, placed an article with the intention of inducing in another a belief that the said article was likely to explode or ignite and thereby cause personal injury or damage to property, contrary to section 51 of the Criminal Law Act 1977.

Daniel Khalife "clearly pre-planned" his prison escape, Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley has said.

He told LBC: "It is clearly pre-planned, the fact that he could strap himself onto the bottom of the wagon."

Sir Mark added a prison escape is "unlikely to be something you do on the spur of the moment".

  • Moment police think they’ve nabbed escaped terror suspect Daniel Khalife only to realise it’s a lookalike

Chaos was sparked across Britain yesterday in the hunt for fugitive Daniel Khalife as motorways, ports, airports and rail stations were caught up in the search.

In one dramatic swoop, police detained a man who looked like the escaped terror suspect as he waited innocently on a platform.

Incredibly, travellers held on a train were told: “We apologise for the delay but police are apprehending a suspected terrorist on the platform.”
