Families could save up to £400 a year on energy bills with expanded insulation scheme
FAMILIES could save up to £400 a year on their energy bills with an expanded insulation scheme launching today.
Brits living in council houses with poor energy ratings of D or below can get help with £1bn of roof, loft or cavity wall insulation to stop energy escaping.
Gas bills are still sky-high, despite the energy price cap falling to around £1,900 per year for the average household.
The expanded Great British Energy Insulation Scheme, which replaced the popular Green Homes Grants, will help 300,000 homes benefit over three years - on top of 2.4million who have got help so far through the Energy Company Obligation Scheme.
Energy Security Secretary Claire Coutinho told The Sun: “With the week we’ve just had, putting the heating on is probably the last thing on anyone’s mind.
“But as autumn approaches, I want to assure Sun readers that we understand the pressures that families are still facing.

“Energy costs have fallen over the past year and are now at their lowest since Putin sent them skyrocketing with his illegal invasion of Ukraine.
“But I know people are still feeling the pinch.
“We’ve already spent £40billion covering half a typical household’s energy bill.
“And today, we’re providing further support with the official launch of our £1billion Great British Insulation Scheme.
“This will help more than 300,000 families, including some of the most vulnerable in society, keep their homes warm this winter while saving on energy bills.
“These changes to your loft or roof are one of the best ways to keep your family warm and could help you save up to £400 a year.”
But Angela Terry, founder of consumer website One Home, said it wasn't enough.
