Her attacker is thought to have been known to her.

The victim is currently being supported by specially-trained officers.

Detectives from Bournemouth CID have launched an investigation and are carrying out enquiries.

Police have said there will be an increased presence in the area and officers can be approached by the public with any information or concerns.

It is the latest in a string of sex attacks that has seen the seaside town likened to the “Wild West”.

There is no suggestion the latest allegation is in anyway linked to previous attacks.

Other alarming incidents include a woman aged in her 20s allegedly raped in Boscombe's Sovereign Centre car park on August 31.

On August 11 another woman was attacked on Horseshoe Common in Bournemouth and on July 7 a woman made a complaint of being raped in public toilets on the East Cliff.

Police are also investigating a number of allegations of people being sexually assaulted on Bournemouth beach in broad daylight.

Two teenage girls reported being touched by a man in and out of the sea next to the pier on August 19, while two girls aged just 10 and 11 were sexually assaulted in the sea on June 25.

A week before that a 17-year-old boy reported being touched inappropriately while in the water with friends close to the pier.

Some locals have blamed a “lack of police presence” for the increase in crime in the resort.
