Nick Clegg savages government’s plan to wrap up Brexit within two years – and says leaving the EU is ‘the kamikaze option’

He also labelled the decision to leave the European Union the 'kamikaze option'

EX-DEPUTY Prime Minister Nick Clegg has blasted the government’s plan to wrap up Brexit within two years.

The Liberal Democrat said the Tories are “kidding” the British people with the time needed to settle the country after invoking Article 50.

MP Clegg said: “The idea that this going to be wrapped up neatly with a bouquet on top within 18 to 24 months, I think is simply kidding the British people.

“The Government should come clean with everybody that it is just going to take a lot longer to get everything settled.”

He labelled the decision to leave the European Union the “kamikaze option”.

“That’s what the really hardline, head-banging Brexiteers want, who say ‘hurl the world we’ll cut ourselves off’,” he added.

“People like me have always said the European Union is flawed and its needs to be reformed, but simply quitting the world’s largest borderless market place is an economically self-harming thing to do.”
