Man found dead on M6 near Coventry – as drivers become stuck in 10-MILE queues after police close motorway

A MAN has been found dead on the M6 near Coventry - as drivers were stuck in 10-mile queues.

Police were forced to close the motorway just after 4am today following a "serious incident" between junction 4a and junction 2 heading southbound.

It has now been confirmed that a man was sadly killed in the incident.

Traffic officers, Warwickshire Police and West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS) rushed to the motorway just after 4.30am.

Despite paramedics' best efforts, the man succumbed to his injuries and was sadly pounced dead at the scene.

It has not yet been revealed what happened but investigations are ongoing.

A WMAS spokeswoman said: “On arrival, crews found a male patient.

"Sadly, it quickly became clear that, due to his injuries, nothing could be done to save him and he was confirmed dead at the scene.”

His next of kin have been informed and are being supported, say cops.

A spokesman from Warwickshire Police added: "We currently have officers at the scene of the M6 investigating as part of an ongoing incident.

"The road is closed southbound from J3 (Coventry) to J2 (M69) and these closures are likely to remain in place for several hours.

"Earlier this morning a man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

"His next of kin has been informed. Our thoughts are with his friends and family.

"Please try to avoid the area and seek alternative routes where possible."

Motorway cameras showed lorries and cars at a standstill during Thursday's rush hour.

The road has since reopened this afternoon.
