Cops probe ‘Black Eye Friday’ murder after man found stabbed on Birmingham street during early hours

Paramedics found man slumped on Moseley Street on Saturday morning suffering from knife wounds but he later died when they took him to hospital

A MAN died yesterday after being found by paramedics slumped in a street and suffering from what appeared to be stab wounds.

Despite the best efforts of the emergency services to save him, the man died on the way to the hospital after he was taken from Moseley Street in Birmingham.

Police have locked down the area so forensics teams could collect evidence after the man was discovered at around 3.30am on Saturday, the morning after what is known as Black-Eye Friday when high streets are filled with Christmas revellers.

The reports that detectives are examining surveillance footage from the local area, which is home to a number of businesses, factories and other commercial properties.

Detective Inspector Paul Joyce, from West Midlands Police, said: “We are still trying to piece together what happened in the street in the early hours of the morning.

“We are looking into reports there was an altercation but I would urge anybody with any information to get in contact with me and my team as soon as possible.”

The incident is the latest in a series of stabbings across the Birmingham area within the last couple of months after three young people were stabbed within hours of each other on the night of October 18.

One victim was Giovanni Lewis, aged 28, who was stabbed in Hadfield Way, Kingshurst, who was dropped off at a hospital A&E department by a member of the public where medics battled in vain for an hour to save him.

On October 15 detectives in Dudley launched a murder inquiry after Mansoor Mahmood was found dead outside a fast food shop on High Street, Brierley Hill, at around 4.45pm.

A man was left vomiting blood in Manchester last night after being stabbed in the head on a day that has also come to be known as 'Mad Saturday'.

According to a witnesses the fight broke out near a strip club in the city’s Princess Street at around 4.30am this morning – ending with one man being stabbed in the head with a “broken bottle” by another.
