She receives around 100 calls a week in her mission to "ruthlessly exterminate those men" - and says police turn a blind eye to her assaulting other women in public.

She told : "We beat the woman into the middle of the street, causing a traffic jam. There were lots of people standing there, watching us beat the woman.

"The police officer told me that he 'didn't see what's happening.' When I heard this, I knew it's OK. So I kept beating the mistress."

One of her greatest achievements was when she was approached by the wife of a senior official in 2009 - who had 17 lovers.

The woman's husband worked in railway contracts and travelled across the country - and Zhang found out the he was having an affair with a local TV presenter.

She told his wife where to go to find him - and when she did, she caught him in bed with his lover, and used his phone to find out that he had been seeing 17 different women in different cities where he worked.

But Zhang doesn't just deal with scorned wives - she also aims to expose corruption, discovering that women were being short-changed by the court system, who are sympathetic towards to cheating husbands.

In 2012 research found that 95 per cent of officials under investigation were cheating on their husbands - and it's common for them to have multiple mistresses who are lavished with gifts and houses.
