Restaurant starts selling UK’s most expensive steak from rare Japanese cattle
A NEW restaurant is selling Britain’s most expensive steak — at £900 a pop.
Aragawa’s 14oz sirloin is cut from the Tajima strain of black wagyu cattle.
The meat is aged for three weeks while shipped from Japan.
It is sourced from farms which raise fewer than 1,000 animals a year — and each steak must pass tests on marbling, colour and texture.
Aragawa, which opened in Mayfair, London, on Friday, offers five steaks starting at £500 for a rump cap.
Founder Kotaro Ogawa said: “We are not overpricing it. You won’t find a steak like this anywhere else in the world.”

Steak master Kazuo Imayosh, a 40-year Aragawa veteran, flew in for the launch.
Chefs cook over imported Binchotan white charcoal in a cantilevered kiln which can take three steaks at a time.
The resulting colour is pale pink and comes out as tender as butter.
London reviews are not yet available.
