Pro-Palestinian Million March organisers must call off protest on Armistice Day
Time for silence
FOR just two official days a year the country stands together to recognise the millions who died in wars to preserve freedoms so many now take for granted.
Honouring that sacrifice every Armistice Day and Remembrance Sunday is a national duty which should never be put in jeopardy.
Which is why the organisers of the pro-Palestinian Million March on Saturday November 11 must call it off.
There have been demonstrations in our capital every weekend since Hamas terrorists killed more Jews in a single day than at any time since the Holocaust.
Each protest has been debased by appalling acts of anti-Semitism and Islamist thuggery. Much of this has gone unpunished.
That they have been allowed to take place is a testament to this country’s tolerant approach to protest.

But the organisers are now stretching our collective tolerance to its absolute limit.
Whatever the protesters think about Gaza, they must know that to march during the Two Minutes Silence at 11am is an affront to decency.
But the mobbing of volunteers at a Royal British Legion poppy stand at Charing Cross station by aggressive Palestine flag-waving yobs shows how little many of them care about that.
Neither can the organisers guarantee the march will pass off peacefully.

Banning protests is not what governments in a free society should normally consider and we hope it won’t be necessary.
If sense prevails then this gross act of selfishness should be shelved in the coming days.
But if it isn’t the police and the Home Secretary will have a very difficult call to make.

FOR years we have been told by doom-monger Remainers that Brexit has ruined our economy.
Well, guess what? It hasn’t.
Despite a crippling global recession, Brexit Britain has been remarkably “resilient”, reports the Institute for Economic Affairs.
Exports to the EU are up since 2019, as are vital services.
