Family’s fury as evil paedo who raped and murdered girl, 9, could be released from jail in time for Christmas
A DEPRAVED paedo who raped and murdered a nine-year-old girl could be released from prison by Christmas in a blow to her mum.
John O’Shaughnessy attacked Kayleigh Ward on the banks of the River Dee in Chester before strangling her to death with his belt.
The monster then chucked her body in the water, where she remained for two months.
O’Shaughnessy was jailed for life with a minimum term of 30 years for the sadistic killing in 1997.
The Parole Board has now confirmed they have "directed the release" of the killer following a hearing.
The decision has sparked fury from Kayleigh's family, who are now desperately trying to appeal it.

They said: "The justice system is wrong. Life should mean life. We have three weeks in which to appeal this decision.
"This monster knew what he was doing. I'm disturbed by the thought of him gaining his freedom. He's going to be out there. To all parents please be aware!
"We the family of Kayleigh are serving the life sentence. She will stay in our hearts and thoughts forever."
O'Shaughnessy lured his neighbour Kayleigh to the water in December 1996 after they bumped into each other on her way back from a chip shop.
He claimed Kayleigh had sobbed "I'll tell my mum, I'll tell my mum" as he attacked her.
The youngster's body was found washed up on the banks of the river by a dog walker two months later.
O'Shaughnessy admitted raping and murdering the youngster at Mold Crown Court in December 1997.
Sentencing, Mr Justice Maurice Kay said: "It is difficult to imagine anything more depraved, cruel and cowardly than that.
"There is no crime more horrific than the murder of a child.
"What you did to Kayleigh Ward was unspeakable."
