GOOGLE will bring out two new smartwatches in early 2017 and they will be compatible with all recent Android and iPhones.

They will run on Google's software but will be designed by a mystery brand, Jeff Chang, product manager of Android Wear at Google revealed.

The only hint Chang offered was that the collaborators have previously made Android Wear devices.

These include watch specialists Tag Heuer, Fossil and Michael Kors as well as Samsung, Motorola and LG.

The watches will be the first to run on the Android Wear 2.0 operating system, Chang told .

The new system has smartened up its clunky interface and will come with a slew of new features.

These include Android Pay support and apps that don’t need a phone to function.

Brand new Google Assistant, which answers to your voice, will come pre-installed, too.

The tech giant created Android Wear specifically for touchscreen wearables.

It's a simplified version of its Android OS, which you can find on Samsung and Sony phones.

It uses gesture control for swiping through apps and menus.

And unlike Apple's Watch, it can work with most phones – including iPhones.

But Google hasn't quite managed to knock Apple Watch 2 off the top spot.

And despite waning demand for the wrist tech, Chang said he remained “quite optimistic” about the future of their watch line.
