But they were put to bed as the games release on Apple Watch was announced yesterday.

Now the questions remain what are gamers going to be able to do with the new platform and how is it going link up with the iPhone. The Sun Online explains.

What is Pokemon Go for Apple Watch?

The game is an Augmented Reality (AR) and Geosatellite Positioning System (GPS) powered which has so far been downloaded 600 million times as of November 2016.

It uses a combination of AR gameplay and physical activity to allow gamers to walk to new locations to find Pokemon and go to Pokestops.

The phone version of the game required users to cover a set distance to hatch some of the "eggs" that can be found in the game.

The new app is going to incorporate the Apple Watch's fitness tracking ability and will feed gameplay into users overall physical activity for the day.

Additionally push notifications will also be fed to the users wrist alerting them to nearby Pokemon, Pokestops and when your eggs hatch.

But if you actually want to snare a Squirtle or pick up a Pikachu you will still have to whip out your iPhone.

The release of the Apple Watch version of the game comes hot on the heels of updates to the game play.

Gamers can now hatch new monsters from the Pokemon Gold and Silver video games as well as adding he elusive Ditto and a special edition Pikachu in a santa hat.

When is the release date?

The move was announced originally in September in San Francisco by Apple, but it was released on December 22.

In September John Hanke, CEO of "Pokemon" creator Niantic Labs, says the idea is to allow you to focus more on your surroundings and not the phone while playing. It's coming later this year.
Hanke said at the time people playing had collectively walked 2.9 billion miles.
He added: "It's certainly been a busy summer for us."
