Incredible moment weather forecaster celebrates live on air after learning she’d won £340,000 on Spain’s El Gordo lottery – but says she WON’T quit her job
Elena Minambres Hernando rushed into the studio when she learned of her windfall and was congratulated by co-presenters
THIS is the incredible moment a television presenter celebrated live on air after winning her country's biggest lottery.
Weather girl Elena Minambres Hernando was having her make-up done backstage when she realised she had won 400,000 EUR (340,000 GBP) in Spain's El Gordo Christmas lottery.
She dashed into the studio to share the news with her colleagues on the Telemadrid TV channel who were broadcasting a morning magazine show.
Her amazed fellow presenters rushed to her side and jumped up and down, clapped and shouted with her in celebration at her good fortune.
Crying with joy, Ms Minambres admitted: "I can't even talk. I don't believe it.
"I've always wondered what people feel like when they win. You see it on TV, everyone celebrating, but when it comes to you, you don't know how to react."
They cracked open a bottle of champagne live on air and asked Ms Minambres if her good fortune meant that she would no longer be reading the weather forecasts.
She laughed: "No, no, I don't want to retire."
Ms Minambres later revealed that her winning lottery ticket had been a Christmas present from her mother-in-law who buys tickets for all of the family every year.
